I only started running a few years ago through my daughters persuading me that it was a good alternative to the other activities I participated in like cycling, tennis and netball.

I wouldn’t say I found it easy and remember one of my daughters practically jogging round the Parkrun 5k course with me on Wimbledon Common.

However, never one to give up, I persevered, and gradually the 5k race became easier and I nervously stepped into my first 10k race with RunThrough and made it round without stopping!

From there I have never looked back and ventured into half marathons.

As we went into lockdown in March 2021, I promised myself two things:

1. To run a half marathon every month whether organised (live or virtual)
2. To be more involved in helping those struggling with food poverty through volunteering with the Dons Local Action Group

I feel very proud of having achieved both over the past 15 months and RunThrough has played a huge part in helping me along the way, having met likeminded people and a real sense of community spirit in both my promises.

My commitment to both remains steadfast, in running, I have achieved some PB’s (June 21 – last on RHS as facing in group picture plus with the womble!) and in volunteering I was very proud to receive this certificate from the Mayor of Merton.

So what next !!!! …

Tackling a marathon is for 2022 and perhaps stepping into triathlon…if I can improved my swimming and continuing to work for Dons Local Action Group to make a difference in keeping those in need our community fed, connected and supported
