For the last couple of months, more than 20 members of staff from Lexington Communicationsthe UK’s leading strategy and communications consultancy – have been busy training for the Chase the Sun 5km event, which took place on Clapham Common on Wednesday 17th July 2019.

Our team took part in the event to raise money for Haven House Children’s Hospice, which supports children and young people aged from birth to 19 years old who have life-limiting or life-threatening conditions. The hospice’s residential and community services extend across North and North East London, West Essex and East Hertfordshire, and include respite and end-of-life care.

More about Havens House Childrens Hospice

Haven House has supported over 900 families, looking after children and young people aged from birth to 19 years old who have life-limiting or life-threatening conditions.

Residential and community services extend across North and North East London, West Essex and East Hertfordshire, including respite and end-of-life care.

In the hospice children benefit from play activities as well as day and overnight stays. Through the Holistic Care Centre, opened in September 2014, children can access a range of therapies, including music therapy, physiotherapy and therapeutic yoga.

The charity was suggested by our colleague, Matt, whose niece Molly passed away from a brain tumour in 2010. Molly was laid to rest in the Butterfly Suite at Haven House, which enabled the family to say their goodbyes, while staff at the hospice provided incredible levels of care. Since then, the family has done an amazing job fundraising while Matt’s niece Isabella was awarded Young Citizen of the Year by Rotary International in 2015 and received a Points of Light Award from the Prime Minister in 2018.

Haven House relies solely on donations and fundraising to survive so we felt it was important to give something back. To boost our fundraising, we also held a Women’s World Cup sweepstake and a running-themed bake sale, which resulted in some amazing cakes.

The RunThrough event was great fun and we were all extremely pleased with our medals. A special mention should go out to our Associate Director Francis Mallinson, who stormed home in 19 minutes and 48 seconds, finishing 8th overall.

A huge thanks to our colleagues, friends, family and clients who have so far donated. Our fundraising has raised more than £2,700 for Haven House, with the total still rising!
