Royal Holloway Cheerleading and Dance Team running for Beauty Banks UK.

On Sunday 2nd February, three members of our Committee ran the Thorpe and Egham 10K to raise money for our team’s 2020 fundraising charity, Beauty Banks UK.  As a result, we raised over £630 and collected over 300 toiletry items for this very important charity. We had a great time and send a big thank you to the RunThrough team and all the volunteers working at the event!

Beauty Banks UK champions the importance of the right everyone has to cleanliness and hygiene. As a result of poverty, homelessness, mental health problems etc, there are too many people in the UK for whom the purchase of everyday hygiene essentials is unaffordable.  Beauty Banks was established, by Jo Jones and Sali Hughes, to collect and distribute hygiene products to those in need.  Now alongside donations from the public, organisations such as L’Oreal donate products to Beauty Banks which are distributed through organisations like the UK foodbanks network. Stores such as Superdrug and Sainsburys have drop off points to make donating easy as part of a shopping trip.

The Royal Holloway Cheerleading Teams have loved working alongside Beauty Banks for the last two years and this year our Committee agreed that participation in the Thorpe and Egham 10K would be a fantastic way to extend our fundraising efforts. It was an incredible experience, one we will never forget. Personally, I found that everyone working, running and watching at the event were so supportive, and when you had a slight worry about not being able to finish, there was always someone to encourage you on. We had such a great time and are planning on running again next year!
