As we move further into August, RunThrough is excited to spotlight two fantastic upcoming events that highlight the beauty and spirit of the local communities they take place in: the Frome Running Festival in Somerset and the Chepstow Running Festival in Wales. Both events promise not only a great day of running but also an opportunity to support meaningful causes and enjoy the camaraderie that comes with being part of the RunThrough community.
Frome Running Festival: Racing for a Cause in the Heart of Somerset
On Sunday, August 18th, we’re thrilled to bring the Frome Running Festival to life, marking our very first event in Somerset. This event is particularly special as it supports the vital work of Dorothy House Hospice Care, our Charity of the Year. Dorothy House Hospice Care provides compassionate care for those with life-limiting illnesses, and we’re honoured to help them continue their essential work through this festival.
Runners of all abilities are invited to take part in the 5k, 10k, or Half Marathon, each offering a unique and attractive running experience. Starting and finishing at the picturesque Old Showfield, participants will weave through the charming streets of Frome Town Centre and, for those tackling the Half Marathon, venture out into the stunning Somerset countryside, passing the historic Nunney Castle along the way. With the entire event taking place on a road-closed circuit, safety and enjoyment are guaranteed for all participants.
Steph Cox, Relationship Fundraising Lead at Dorothy House and a proud Frome resident, expressed her excitement about the event, saying, “We really appreciate the opportunity that RunThrough has given us and hope that as many local people as possible sign up and choose to support the Hospice. Being able to sign up to a local event, with money raised, supporting friends and family in the local area is what it’s all about.”
Chepstow Running Festival: A Day of Running at the Historic Chepstow Racecourse
The same weekend, on Sunday, August 17th, we’ll be heading to Wales for the Chepstow Running Festival. Set against the stunning backdrop of Chepstow Racecourse, this event is a true celebration of running for all abilities. Known as the home of the Welsh Grand National, the racecourse’s historic circuit offers a unique and picturesque venue for this running festival.
The Chepstow Running Festival is designed to cater to runners of all levels, with a variety of distances available. Whether you’re aiming for a new personal best or simply looking to enjoy a day of fitness and fun, there’s something for everyone. The circuit-style course around the racecourse adds an extra element of excitement, allowing participants to experience the thrill of running in such a renowned location.
Matt Wood, Co-Founder of RunThrough, highlighted the significance of the event: “Our aim is to inspire an active nation through running, and this event is a celebration of that mission. Chepstow Racecourse provides a stunning backdrop for participants of all abilities to enjoy a day of running, camaraderie, and achievement.”
This festival is the second of two events we’ve hosted at Chepstow this year, with the next one coming up in January 2025. It’s the perfect opportunity to experience the RunThrough spirit in one of Wales’ most iconic locations.
