My name is Oliver, I am 36 and I am a runner, cyclist and triathlete.
My running journey started 6 years ago as part of my weight loss journey and after a few runs, I was hooked. Some of the first events I did as a new runner were organised by RunThrough and that’s where my journey with them also started. Since those first races, I have run almost every RunThrough London event. I also did a number of their virtual events during lockdown which were really helpful during those hard times.
Over the last 2 years I have been lucky enough to also have started working with RunThrough as a marshal. I really enjoy being involved with the events and cheering other runners on.
Last September I came off my bike and broke my collarbone. This meant I wasn’t unable to run for almost 2 months due to complications following the accident including nerve damage.
Once I was able to run again I started slow and ran with some run clubs including Adidas runners, where at one event I was lucky enough to win a place in the Manchester Marathon. For this event I had 10 weeks to train and after months of recovery and a slow journey back to running I had to really start increasing the mileage.
I decided to use an online trainer app to help guide me through the training and ensure that I did the correct strength training as well as the physio exercises I needed for the continued recovery of my shoulder. By following the plan carefully, I reached race day and finished the marathon with a 6-minute PB.
I am now training for my next marathon in October and during this time I am also aiming to get a new 10k and half marathon PB.
