Fraser Bull, ran his first ever 5K race with us at the Queen Elizabeth Olympic park on the 11thDecember 2016 . He was running 5K to raise 5k towards a Standing Frame for family friend Martin who sadly had a cycling accident.
Fraser came up with the idea of setting up an online crowd-funding page to appeal for sponsorship at the beginning of November and hit his target in the first week! He completed the 5k in 31 minutes and has now raised an amazing £8,500!
Fraser hopes his crowd-funding efforts will make life easier for wheelchair-bound Martin who suffered horrific spinal injuries when he slammed into the back of a bus on his way home from work on his bike two years ago. Martin is now paralysed from the chest down and is adjusting to his new life and the challenges that now brings.
The standing frame will greatly improve the quality of his day to day life since the accident, and will give Martin support in the standing position to improve his bone density, muscle development and weight bearing, it can assist his respiratory, circulatory and digestive functions as well as improve his general well-being.
Martin was in long term rehabilitation in a specialist spinal hospital and has made amazing progress since the accident. Through his sheer determination and extraordinary positivity, he has now learned to drive again in a specially adapted car and plays wheelchair rugby twice a week at Stanmore Hospital.
Martins unbelievable progress since the accident is a real testament to the type of guy he is and his amazing girlfriend Mirka who has been with him every step of the way through his recovery. The messages on the crowd funder show the huge emotion and love people who know Martin feel towards him.
Running a 5k and raising a huge amount of money is an amazing achievement for Fraser, and what a great cause for Martin. If you’d like to make a donation, CLICK HERE
