TRAINING TIPS
Now it is time to dial it back and focus on recovery before you jump on to your next challenge. See our recovery guideline below and enjoy putting your feet up.
1. Keep active
Even though we said, rest up, it is actually best to keep moving, but just at a lower level. Walking and low-impact exercise is perfect post-race. Take it easy, but keeping yourself moving will not only prevent stiffness in your legs, it will help you to mentally recover from race day.
2. Stay hydrated
Even though racing and training has ended, hydration doesn’t stop here. Keep hydrated post-race as you will still be catching up. Hydration will prevent fatigue and promote recovery.
3. Eat well
Focus on having carb and protein heavy meals the day after the race. Your body will need the nutrients to kick start its recovery! Make sure you take the time to plan your meals accordingly and eat well for your recovery process!
4. Sleep lots!
Sleep has never been so important as it will be post-race. This week, aim to get at least 8 hours per night, sometimes more if you need it! Sleep will kick start your recovery and you will feel better for it. Mental and physical health will benefit from those extra hours in bed.
5. Motivation for the next race
If you are feeling the post-race blues, it may be worth looking out for races later in the year, whilst you have the extra time to plan! It may help you keep your mind distracted after months of hard work.
